Right i have just started a year or hill climbs and sprints and some trackdays and although im still fiarly impressed with the power of my Peugeot 306 gti I need more power!

Im thinking throttle bodies and management first, but then im contemplating forged rods and piston, pockets cut for valves to allow for better cams, some light head work and maybe a lightened crank. Does anyone have any experience of a similar build / spec? I would love to do a bored and stroked build but the regs for the championships i am in do not allow an increase in capacity - so no turbo / super chargers either. Looking for a good all round, torquey engine.

Half of me thinks it might be wasted money and consider evos etc, but then i realise that if i think this is expensive, anything on an evo would be 5 - 10x the price. I think i'd just enjoy building the engine up, i just hope that after 4k of work it is actually a lot faster!

So any suggestions, ideas, experiences????

Alec

Sorry not that helpful on the tuning front but wouldnt an old Impreza Sti be a better starting point? Much more attainable power. N/A tuning is going to cost a load for little return.

Or maybe buy one thats already been done?

i know you mean - i have loved scoobies for years aswell and that really has been my dilema - the thing is though - for example - i just needed to uprate my brakes, tyres, suspension - and i bet the cost was not a 1/4 of what it would have been with a scooby.

The other thing is i quite like the thought of N/A power, after having a few turbo cars.

Lastly, at a sprint the other day there was a p1, type r, and some sti's and they really werent that fast - maybe 3 or 4 seconds faster on a lap taking about a minute. Yes - i know that is a lot in race time, but when you consider the differences in cost / engine size / reputation its not that much. The highly tuned ones (read massive amounts of money spent) would be faster but the standardish ones aren't actually that fast.

Have you looked at the GTI-6 owners club? Did a quick search and hill climbs are a popular subject.
