My first car an MG Metro inherited from my grandmother in 2002, was a 1982 car with 24,000 miles on the clock. The most amazing thing was that my gran had kept a notebook in the glovebox which recorded EVERY mile the car had done. E.g. 5/5/82 0 took delivery
6/5/82 10 took car to shops and petrol station
etc etc etc.
Quite cool really.

Very low use is only a good thing if the car is stored at a constant temp and in a dry environment though.

I had a 50k mile 1998 bmw 540 last year and there was significant corrosion to the exposed metalwork under the car. A previous 5 series i had, same year but twice the miles, was absolutely fine.

So it's not good thing in some circumstances.

Also need to make sure that the car has been serviced on date rather than milage. Hate it when you get a 20 year old car with 50k on the clock but its never had the cam belt done because it hasn't made the milage yet and only been serviced twice.

If I had the choice between old low mileage and new high mileage for the same model and price I would go with the newer model everytime.

Not massively relevant when your look for 205's.

My Mum sold her '88 205xe 5 years back with about 35000 on it. Serviced annually, always garaged, not a spot of rust on it.

This is so true. Even though my gran had washed the car and garaged it every time after use it was still a rust bucket. It had all the services done on time and everything. It was just not drying out properly. I had to replace the front wings and patch the floor, soon after I inherited the car. Still love it though biggrin

Not sure about the 28k, but the 14k model has been owned by the same guy for 7 years and always garaged. Looks v clean in the pics, only corrosion was on the wheels from curbing but I would change them for either 1.9 or mi16 as gentrys sport the horrible 14 inch 8 spokes that are fitted to my current 205 stdt smile

My grandad's 1993 Sierra Azura had 17000 miles when he gave it to me about 3 years ago - serviced every year.
Sadly it written off by someone driving into the back of it with 28000 miles on the clock.

I recently inherited (and then sold) a 1989 Nissan Micra from an elderly Aunt.
Owned by her from new, it had 28k on the clock, was serviced annually and had every invoice ever spent on it.
Not a spot of rust and she doesn't recall ever having anyone in the back.

I was fighting people off with a stick when I sold it - it truly was a time-warp car.

I bought my runabout Civic in 2007. It was a 1999 plate with only 28,000 on the clock.

Ticked over 122,000 yesterday!

Would you believe I can't remember paperbag

If I'm working on a car and I turn my back on it and you ask me what colour it is, I will almost never know. Don't know why but it just very rarely registers confused

This chap had two of them, one hard-top and one soft-top; the other one had a more sensible mileage on it but was easier to set up and did run better.

My dad has a 1958 MG Magnette that has been in the family from new (he's the second owner, one day I'll be the third). There can't be many out there like that!
