I have recently purchased a 318 Is, in E36 coupe guise and in general I am pleased with it. Unfortunately the arrival of the rarely seen sun has caused an issue.

When I leave the car parked in a warm place the engine seems rather unhappy on initial startup. After it fires it idles incredibly roughly for a few seconds, and vibrates as if it has dropped a cylinder or two. A quick rev sorts things out; normal idle returns and I'm fine to proceed.

This only happens in hot weather, when the car is started from warm - but in a cold ambient temperature everythnig is fine. The car is black; which traps heat so I assume this is something to do with high underbonnet temperatures.

At the moment it seems like it could be as simple as fuel vapourisation in the injector pipes, leading to poor delivery. As stated a good rev to wake up the pump and get some liquid petrol flowing seems to cure things. My dad had a Mondeo that would do similar things when the mercury rose.

Any ideas?
