I've had a few cars over the last 20 years - 41 to be precise - and have got to the point that I want something just a little bit special that i will keep.
I'm looking to change my 55 plate passat tdi in the next 6-8 weeks and have sort of run out of ideas, so was hoping you guys might be able to make some suggestions...

These are my criteria..
1. Luxurious - i.e. all the toys, leather, heated seats, and that "feeling" of luxury
2. Needs to look good and a bit special
3. auto
4. Preferably under about 65k
5. Preferably no older than 2002

I've recently changed jobs so mileage isn't a major concern as I use the train most days, so this will be used for station runs and the family car at the weekends with the 2 kids.
Initial thoughts are
L322 Range Rover
530d touring
e46 BMW M3
Chrysler 300c (has to have 20's and preferably black, but is the interior a bit cheap feeling?)
S class

What other little gems are there that I'm missing?

My car, 05' Audi A6 3.0 TDi, bought it at 60k miles.

Leather, sat-nav, heated seats, bluetooth etc.

£12k smile

Best car I have ever owned.

Or a newer 4.2 XJ. BMW 745 is also worth a look at.

I am a BMW and Mercedes man, and I also only keep my cars 6-12 months, but I bought a 3.2 A6 avant Quattro with all the toys 18 months ago and I have loved it!
Now, not saying to go and buy an A6, but I would seriously consider buying a nice A8, you can get alot for your money with one of those, plus they come with all the toys as standard.

Also the 7 series is a blinder, my Dad has had his 730d sport for 3 years now and he only kept his for 18 months before that, I get to use it quite a bit and I love it. You can buy a really nice sub 60k mile 745i within budget.

Then you have the Mercs, however I would hunt out a nice CL500 rather than an S, or even an E500.

2003 CL500 50k miles, hmmmm! wink

As much as I love the 5 series they are hardly special.

Like this: http://pistonheads.com/sales/1502717.htm

EDIT: I'm guilty of not reading all the specification, but it covers most of the bases wink

I'm selling the wife's RX300, full leather, heated seats, full european colour sat nav, reverse camera, and loads of other gadgets like the rear door being remote open/closing - ideal when your hands are full! Proper 5 seater too, it's currently got 2 child seats in the back and still has room for an adult. Drop the seats and the load space is huge plus you'll have plenty left from your budget.

A lot of people say the RX is the best car they have ever owned and the only car you ever need, never heard anything bad against them. I would love to try one for a week or two to see what the fuss is about.

Plus yours is in the most popular Jewish Racing Gold as well. wink

To be honest it wasn't top of my list when she got it but after having it for a few years it is a cracking car. She'd previously had countless fiesta's, 156, a4 but wanted something bigger with having 2 children on board. Think the main difference is the spec and cost compared to X5, ML etc... problem is that when looking for something new you've got to either give something up in terms of spec or increase your budget. Styling may bot be everyone's choice but great drive and very comfy/roomy cabin.
