Was behind an old Cavalier today. It had a personalised plate - two digit number, plus one letter. Now, a 1995 Cavalier 1.8 is worth at the most £500-£600 quid. I would have thought the plate would be worth a bit more....

So, stty car with personalised plate, or flog the plate and get a better car?

I know what I'd go for!

the same reason many people with LOTS of cash drive average cars. They don't care about cars. Plates are often in familys, so it may not have been paid for by the driver

It's not usually a case of, I can afford a crap car and a personal plate, or a good car with it's standard plate..

Some people just genuinely don't give a st what car they drive, they could have owned it from new? Or maybe it was on the car when they purchased it?

The plate could've been put on the car when it was new or nearly new, when it would've been worth a fair amount more.

I have an old '98 VW Passat with an (relatively) expensive plate on.

It is just an old shed for when I dont want to use F355.

The cav may be worth 500-600 in sterling, but to the owner it may be worth a lot more.

My plate is going onto an old Micra for 'storage' when I go overseas. It is hardly a £100k plate, but will be worth more than the car hehe
There could be any number of reasons for good plates to be on crap vehicles. A guy my parents know used to have loads of decent plates on mopeds and old nails back in the 1980s. These were mainly investments and in the end I think he did pretty well out of them smile
