"A large stand was built to static-test the huge stage under the full 7,500,000-pound-thrust of its five F-1 engines. These engines generated no less than 180 million horsepower." from here

Surely it has to be the Honda "Spoon" Engines which enable the engine to rev to 14,000rpm in a road car on the 2.0ltr Vtec CTR lump.

Not manty people in the UK seem ever to comment about this tuner however in the USA they are HUGE/well known - think Fast&Furious is possible the most a UK Petrol head may have heard about them.

Think Veilside also tune the Skyline 2.6ltr Twin turbno to rev to 11,000rpm normal operating range.... and thats an engine which will do 50k+.

Or a Ruff tuned example.

Failing any of the above the AC Cobra 427 widow maker, so so loud and it has the performance to back up its bark. Sublime looks too.

Like your choices there Welshbeef, from the opposite ends of the spectrum as t'were. I'm a sucker for a V8 and I like the revvy stuff too but there's just something dark about the Merlin that gets your hairs on end.

This one ain't bad either – needs more volume than this clip provides but it's on an amazing DVD I've got somewhere

Odd as it may sound I also really enjoy the Old man's strimmer engine... that has had SO many rebuilds is 25 years old now has a straight trough exhanst (no neighbours for many fields). Always have to wear good ear guards but boy when that thing sings at super high revs and then the nylos gets cut the step change is incredible an utter screaming buzzing mess.

Oh have to add another one - only ever been to Santa Pod once and saw a few funny cars... my god is that insane 6000bhp+ first time I heard it start up 1/2 mile plus at idle you couldnt even hear the "run what you brung" cars maxing it off the line... clearly not a practical engine full rebuild every 1/4 mile and all that..

Another call is the Bently 6.75 V8 - utter smoothness and power.

The "Spoon" tuning company's really good. Know someone who's named there Kid "Mugen" after the other Honda Tuning company, he probably did think of "Spoon" first but got slapped in the head!!! Can you imagine the amount of bullying done to a kid named Spoon?

Again I have to agree. Took the boy to Santa Pod a couple of years back and he couldn't believe the top fuelers, he thought we were having an earthquake as he'd never felt noise through his feet before. I was lucky enough to see some of the top Yanks in action in the States, and that's a whole other level, as they say. Especially at night with blue flames from the headers adding to the aural assault. Literally awe-inspiring.

Rumoured to rev well over 20k rpm, desmodromic valves and a lovely sound through the termignoni pipes

ETA- Not quite epic compared to some of the above, but a sweet engine nonetheless

Am agreeing with you on Ducati 3Dom, I remember the old Dukes blaring round the Island in the 80s (Hailwood etc), much slower-revving than today's Ducatis but just as impressive in their own way. The road bike to have back then was the 900SS on Conti pipes. If you could put up with the unreliability. They needed a lot of looking after.
