I have my Carrera 3.2 up for sale on both PH and Car & Classic at the moment. A couple of weeks ago I had an enquiry through PH from a guy calling himself 'Chris', who had an Australian email address. He said he was in Sydney and was looking for pre-89 Porsches and Ferraris to import. I was a bit wary, but he was asking pertinent questions and it didn't seem like the normal advance-fee type scam and payment, should it come to that, would be via a friend in the UK. Anyhow, nothing came of it in the end and I thought nothing more about it.

However, today I've just had another enquiry via Car & Classic from someone called Chris from Australia. I asked if he was the same 'Chris' who had already enquired; he replied so say yes and sorry. What is all starting to look odd is that this 'Chris' is using two different email addresses and also appears to have two different surnames... scratchchin

Anyone think this is a bit suspicious?

Suspicious you say , how about these lot ??

Good day,

Thanks for your reply . I am glad to tell you that cost and conditions are acceptable by the delegates and as such willing to make a deposit payment immediately. Due to there acceptance and willingness to stay in your facility, I have concluded payment with them also.A credit card detail would be sent to you when I receive your confirmatory mail so that you would charge, a part payment of 50% deposit as agreed/authorized by the delegates. This is to enable you secure the rooms for the period of time they would want to stay in your facility.

Furthermore, I have been instructed to pay for your accommodation, car hiring, other necessary travel arrangements and provision of a language translator whom would be able to translate every language word to them because they are Greeks.... I have arranged this with a linguist who is willing to undertake these responsibilities on there behalf. He would be with them throughout their stay with you. He would also hire a coaster bus for there movement in and around your city.Sequel to this, once you receive the credit card details, you would be authorized to charge a total of £6,800 from it plus 50% payment for your services and send the balance of £6,800 to the translator to enable her take care of some of other travel logistics and also hire a Costar bus for them to easy their movement on time. You are advised to charge the credit card because the instructor do not have a credit card charging facility to put through these charge on the credit card. His account does not support it.

Owing to this, pls confirm this directives and

I also hope the stay of the delegates will be made comfortable.
Here are the name of the delegates;
1. Rev Fr.Fred ZDZISLAW
2. Rev Fr.Barnabas Zetzsche
3. Rev Fr.Karl-Heinz Bartel
4. Rev.Fr.Helga Schubbe
5. Rev.Fr.Joe Roth
6. Rev.Fr.Steve de Graeve

Please send their rooms allocation as soon as possible.

Kind Regards
David Perkins

Somethings not right. Even if "Chris" did view a lot of listings/ads, surely would remember your car? Esp. since asked some questions too.

Different names, personal details etc = dodgy. Leave well alone.

Indeed, same pictures and text used on both ads. The thing is, he was asking questions very specific to this version of the 911 rather than the usual weirdly phrased cut'n'paste generic stuff you get in the standard Nigerian emails and after some emails discussing details of the car he decided not to take it any further.

Very odd... confused

Doesn't sound dodgy at all. If he's asking specifics and he's clued up on the car model he could be looking at adverts all over the place everyday and he just forgot he'd already seen your car. Also, if he was a scammer why would he take it no further and then confirm to you he was the person the first time round?

Australia has a ridiculously strong currency at the moment and classics don't have the same import taxes over there and can command a huge premium to the UK. My mate is even taking his 07 Golf with him as he reckons after all transport and import costs he'll still make 3 or 4k.
