A friend has the chance of buying a Toyota Celica = http://www.one2car.com/CarInfor/cardetails.aspx?ca...

Please bear in mind this thing is original and costs the thick end of 18k gbp. He then thinks that putting a lexus V8 or similar or even an S14 motor etc is ok. I have told him he deserves to be shot for modifying an original 35K Km car but over to you.

PS he also has the following cars: Impreza GDC STi RA-R, R35 GTR, Porsche GT3 & Turbo, Audi/ MTM RS4.

Comments please

So it's his money, his car and you are tellig hiim what to do.

Looking at that list of cars, he obviously likes fast cars and wants to carry this on.

As long as it stays looking standard, what's your beef.

If it's his money and his choice why not.

If you don't want it to be moddded, no worries but you have to put your money where your mouth and opinions are. So buy it and preserve it and stop others modding it.

Good point. My only point really was that this is probably the only decent Celica in the country, and you cant import them, so if he mods it then the last one is gone

I don't think so, as long as he keeps it looking like that! I can imagine that 1.6 in there won't be great.

Remember, as long as its tastefully done why should anyone have any issue. Looks likes it should have some sort of V6/8 lump in it already!

go and read the QCAR Thread.

keeping the looks relatively standard but updating the engine and running gear is fantastic and clearly your mate has the ££ and ideas to do a proper job.

Since its a celica though it would be cool to keep a Toyota group engine in it though, like the supercharged striaght 6 IS200 lump....

Are you sure it's the only one? And why can't you import them?

Also is it not better to be modded and kept in good condition and used, rather than left stock, not used much if at all, parked up forgotten about until it no longer is in good condition?

Can't import anything over a few years old and then pay 350% import tax. Serious. His GTR cost 180k GBP. I agree with the mod oro die idea, but ther are a few wrecks rather than a minter that I think would be better. This is the problem we face over here. You will pay serious money for what you guys would call a POS and still have to mod or restore with a load of cash to make what you would call decent. He is also on the look for a kit car, have pointed him in ther direction of Ultima, will keep you posted on that one

Sorry my bad, hadn't realised you are not in the UK.

I guess that might put a different slant on it. Although purely from a project build point of view, if you want to do something like this, you are better off starting with a minter. A shed of a motor will always be an uphill struggle no matter what you do to it.

A car that looks that good needs, nay deserves the power and rumble of a V8.

But thats already modified bodywise anyway. If that was a 100% original i could see your point.

Think I m in the clear now, he's got a modded Ford GT in his sights. Though will pass on your comments and now think it would be better if he had the Celica than anyonelse. At least it will be done right and proper and with sone respect, and yes the lexus V8 is a definite probability!!!!
