Is it normal to get braking judder after having a 4 wheel alignment done ?

( brake discs are about 500 miles old )

On an E46 330D 2004, blackdiamoind grooved discs, textar pads.

Front tyres are Vred sessantas and around 9000 miles old and have a good 5ish mm tread left.

More detailed look.

The right tyre has worn on the outside a tad more than the one on the left. And both have general inner wear. Is this enough to cause a slight steering wheel judder at 70+ after a new alignment?

Lowest point on the tyre is around 4.5mm.

Brake judder is almost certainly nothing to do with your tyres or alignment. I'd be looking carefully at those non-standard discs and pads.

I know the classic BMW shimmy problem (also under braking). But here is an 'odd' answer

Another one.

Reason I am posting links as when I had the 7-series I was going mad having it tracked, balanced, pads/discs checked etc before finding out it was a known fault and know how frustrating it can be.

I had similar problems on my E46 320i. In the end it turned out that I had a sticking front brake caliper which was causing one of the disks to bind, heat up and warp.

It was a simple fix - just took the caliper off; stripped the pads; pumped the brake piston out as far as I dared; cleaned the corroded part of the piston with some wet and dry; greased the piston and contact points for the slider / brake pad 'tabs' and hey presto; no more sticking brakes!

When the control arm bushes go(usually around 60-80k), the symptom is usually a 'snatch' at low speed when you first touch the brake pedal.

Hope this helps
