Porsche 944 trackday / racing - Newbie ... where to start?
Discussion
I have had an idea brewing in my head for a while now and I was wondering if I could bounce some ideas off people. I haven't put this in Porsche, Trackdays or Motorsport sections as I want to get ideas of where to go with it in GG first.
Well.. I used to store my 944 and then E36 M3 in a barn in Berks and keep it for weekend drives to spare it from the dangers of Tooting ( you should see the people try to park in my road ). It was worth the hassle of being 60 - 80 mins from the car as insurance when I had the 944 and was 24-25 was £200 vs £2000! However with age and the M3 coming along the gap has narrowed so that this summer I am down to the one car ( I had a London banger ). So there is a space in the barn for another car.
Interestingly my Dad also has a 944, he was going to use it for spares but its actually really solid. Its worth not a lot as its got the guards rd pink fade and the interior is knackered ( well mainly the front 2 seats are shot ) and its in beige!
So... instead of getting a new car I wanted to maybe purchase this one which is mechanically great ( had MOT's no problem when it last went ), strip it to 2 bucket seats and then maybe a cheap wrap to take away the pink?
So the question is. Lets ignore the cost of the car, how much it is to go racing in something a 1983 944 Lux is eligible for and also can I track day a non road legal car easily? I see people have 'track day specials' on here but don't know what the rules are on normal track days. I'd also think about Hill climbs etc etc. Just wanted to know if anyone else has similar experiences they can share / any advice on what to do next? I think there is a PCGB series that I coudl enter, or is this going to be frustrating in a Lux?
I don't mind getting a decent 2nd hand car trailer as I think my Dad really needs one anyway!
