hi guys,
just wondering where's the best place to get insurance for young drivers, i know it's different for everyone, but some links would be useful?

looking to insure a clio 182 cup, i'm 22 and getting quotes of around 6K!
that's more than the car's worth.

any ideas greatly appreciated as i really want this car!
thanks!

Have you tried Adrian flux? They were always cheap for me when I was younger. I hear their customer service is better these days too.

Have you tried Admiral? They are usually pretty good for young drivers?

Do you have any driving convictions? How many no claims bonus do you have?

Admiral were great for me on my 350z at 20, so i would give them a try.

Search button broken again? We must get this topic twice a week. Confused.com!! Admiral are best for me though.

One thing that slightly muddies the water is that location can make a massive difference. Somebody parking their car on their parent's driveway in the countryside will be paying much less than somebody parking it on the street in Birmingham, so unless people mention their circumstances then comparisons are deceptive.

At 20, I had my 182. 2NCB and parked on my drive, B rated postcode, 12k p.a.

My insurer at the time (Norwich Union, now Aviva) charged the equivalent of £1450p.a. for that. With no NCB I imagine you'd be looking north of £2k, but not as high as 6!

That sounds like a pretty good quote for a 17 year old, I doubt that you will beat thaT!

no NCB
That will be why, I cant really see you paying any less than £2/3k on a car like that with no NCB.
Tesco, direct line and churchil have been good for me, but since you're going for a high performance car they may not quote you on it.

£1,500 seems to be the standard starting point for young drivers. You might find it worth phoning an insurance company and talking through what cars/models they rate at what level. In other words, find out what they will insure you on rather than choosing the car first. They often rate up cars which are "popular with the kids" yet you can get a good deal if you pick something which will give you a good drive without the awkward perceptions.

Is this a quote as a learner or when you get your full licence bud? As that sounds cheap!

Moneysupermarket is my favourite. Cheaper than other comparison sites (IMO).

Get a quote, ring them and haggle, add your girlfriend/Mum as a named driver and see what happens.

I bought my Fiesta ST when I was 20. Insurance was as follows:

20: £1200
21: £800
22: Renewal is this summer and should be around the £650 mark

I use Bell/Elephant and switch between the two. Might try adrian flux this year though
