Before I get flamed - photos will be posted when the camera behaves!

Ford Mondeo ST220 (2004) in silver with the 6 speed manual. Has a FSH and 50,000 miles on the clock.

The alloys need a slight bit of work (not scuffed but some strange discolouration) and there is a strange knocking from the rear suspension on the passanger side (nothing bad so I will investigate).

Came with a long MOT, tax and 4 x new tyres and brake pads.

Paid £4300 which is not too bad.

Has done 32.5 mpg so far which is not amazing but not tragic either.

I turned down a more leggy 5 speed BMW 330d (£1000 more expensive) - was sound but always the potential for big bills. I figured you would need to do 2 years motoring to even break even.

Nice purchase.

Re: the alloys. This discoloration happens to all the ST220/ST TDCi wheels and is due to them being diamond cut. There isn't much you can do to repair them other than refurbish. A standard refurb in silver will eradicate the problem but the wheels will not shine anywhere near as much.

I reckon you made the right choice - no DMFs, DPFs, EGRs or turbos to fail and lower mileage to boot.

Saloon or hatch?

Probably, it certainly handles better due to the stiffer bodyshell compared to the hatch.

The handling is better than my E36 328i (similar performance ish) and the ride is softer than the Z4.

So far so good.

I need to sort outthe heated seats - lights on the switches but no heat. Sort it out over the summer ready for the winter!

£20 says it's subframe bushes. A new subframe will be required as the bushes are a pig to get out. The Ford dealership where I used to work would fit about 5 a week to Mk3 Mondeos (& Ford never issued a recall).

£21.91 each according to their website and you'll need four HTH.
