...how does it work? I've just bought a brand new car, haggled my OTR price (which includes 12 months road tax), and nothing has been mentioned? What's the deal with it, anyone know?

Well how did you manage getting A and B into the same sentence? It's a logical impossibility. If 12 months road tax is included then obviously it has been mentioned!

With a brand new car road tax is the least of your worries. Welcome to the world of depreciation.

I've negotiated an OTR price with the dealer. 'OTR' for a new car means inclusive of 12 months RFL. No mention has been made of higher charges to pay because of the new government 'incentives'. I'm thinking its all just in with the cost of the car (which is uber discounted anyway!)

199 CO2 is £425 so I think yours is now £300, so around £100 more.

Just remember at the end of the day the dealer has already given you a good deal you say, so the increase will come out of their pocket.

All well and good screwing for an excellent deal but if the dealer cannot make enough to stay in business because everyone is screwing them for loads of money off, who is going to carry out any warranty work you need done to your new P&J? Anyone who thinks they make bundles is sadly way behind the times...

Nice sermon padre hehe

I'm happy with my deal and presumably will take it wherever the hell I want for warranty work, it doesn't have to be the supplying dealer. confused

Warranty is with manufacturer and not dealer, so it is for the manufacturer to sort that one out

Whoa there Einstein! Are you comparing an AM list price to a trade-in offer on a second hand vehicle? Your post makes absolutely no sense.

I think he's trying to say £10k cars are priced at £15k so we all feel good when we haggle them back down to £10k.

Which is of course true. But I don't really see an alternative?

And it has nothing to do with tax :S

No, there is no alternative, it's not like manufacturers will give them away now is it. We are talkikng new cars here, not used bargins. And as you say, nowt to do with tax. Still, I'll take my circa 23% discount and be relatively insulated from major depreciation woes.

Nope. 23% depreciation before it even left the showroom! Just the start of the slippery slope...

If new cars lose an average of say 60% from LIST PRICE in the first three years then HR has done well to gain a discount of 23% and has mitigated his loss as best he can. If you buy almost any car you face depreciation; the decision is simply at what stage of the curve you chose to begin and end your ownership experience - a decision which is entirely personal and based on factors such as personal wealth, disposable income, image, reliability and waranty amongst other things.

HR has found a deal which is good for him and meets his needs. He has done well.

Couldn't have put it better myself! Purchase price circa 16.5, three year old examples at 13 or so. Of course it'll depreciate but hey I'm in a brand new car, it's cool. As said I've mitigated the losses as much as I can. Minimal running costs offset the depreciation too.

Fiver is in the post hitch! hehe

But Manufacturers do not have dealerships who actually carry out the work, they only pay a proprotion of the cost of it...

It's for the manufacturer to sort out warranty work though, so it doesn't matter if the dealers all die as they will have to find some way of doing it.

Ordered a new car in December knowing it would come May (next week) with £550 showroom tax, but dealer obviously didn't mention it until very recently, fortunately I knew it was coming.
