BBC news have just said the petro chemical companys expect fuel to hit 150p/ltr by the summer. So that would be Tesco 99 about 165p and V-Power nearing 170p...... that would be £85.00 a tank in my car....

I could cry.

you could put 1k in a spreadbetting account and buy oil for £1 per point.
if price goes up, oil would have been up too and you could secure 500-1000 pounds to offset your petrol expenditure.
if oil goes down, bbc will be wrong and and the petrol prices will remain the same or get cheaper, though you will lose some cash on your spread bet account.
Or one of many other variables could come into play and the petrol prices will go up while the oil prices go down and you lose out on both smile

just a thought

I'v been looking at the infamous RO's and VXR8's recently...... only problem is i could only drive it a couple of times a week.......

My work mates are in the 5p-50p ring flux at the moment, one of them gets about 9mpg out of his celica the other 11mpg in his scoob..... Definatly going to be sold if this occurs....

At a purely selfish level, high petrol prices would be good for me. Less other people on the roads. driving

I'm already having troubles running my Landy as a daily, for short journeys I only get about 12mpg, and with a small fuel tank that means a lot of visits to the petrol station, usually with the price having gone up each time frown

LOL Subtle and diplomatic...like it! biggrin

I guess it comes down to what level prices per litre have to go up to before people choose or are forced to start looking for alternatives. Public transport isn't an option for many, and if loads of drivers migrated, the system wouldn't be able to cope anyway. I guess most people will just be trading up to a car which consumes less. So I don't know if you'll see any less traffic...it'll just be alot less large petrol engined ones.

If it gets to the stage where petrol is genuinely too much for most people to afford, there's going to be real trouble...public transport can't cope but everyone's still got to get to work...how that would pan out I hate to think.

Company fuel card= don't give a monkeys about fuel prices smile 22mpg is my yearly average LOL Lets see petrol at £2 a litre, will empty the roads a bit ( or petrol syphoning will be massively on the rise )

And yet...

Profits at oil giant BP have more than doubled from a year ago on the back of rising oil prices.
Fair enough, companies exist to make profits, but there's a wider social issue here. The cost of fuel has wide reaching effects beyond one company's profits.

Surely this should be reigned in a bit?

How far can you go with these maps, and keep reliability etc?

Good ol' PH, though... I went out to buy a four-door saloon, and came back with a coupe...

Petrol prices are not going up as a result of oil price movements but because the pound is crapping itself. The trade would be to short the pound.

When the price of fuel is mostly tax I don't think that the first port of call should be the petrol companies when it comes to managing the damaging effect on society of the high price of fuel.

If the incumbents stay in power we'll probably see fuel vouchers being issued to those deemed worthy...

My wife works as an NHS physio (a skilled professional in my book). At this rate her net income, less the amount she could claim from benefits if she stopped work, will be less than the amount we spend on cars.

We'll be better off living within walking distance of my work and her packing her job in. It's no wonder there's no buses in the country, no one could afford to go to work driving one. wobble
