One of our company cars was scraped in a car park last night. A kind passer-by left a note under the windscreen with a reg number and type of car and said they saw it happen. The car type matches the car our driver saw parking next to him. Is there anything we can do to pursue this? All I have is a reg number?
Thanks!

Can the police not go round and look for matching scrapes on the offending vehicle?

Since they legged it, does that not count as criminal damage rather than just a motoring offence?

If the passer by didn't leave any of their own details and you're 100% sure it was the car next to you, then I'd just say you saw it yourself

This is totally the right thing to do.

Insurance companies can trace cars via the reg number and pursue it for you. Pass the details on to them.

It's totally wrong and no doubt illegal, but still the right thing to do. yes

Thanks for the responses. I'll get a quote on the repair and see if it's worth claiming via the insurance. They've done a good job of it though. Four middle aged women all yabbering on and not watching what they were doing. They probably didn't even know they'd done it.
