Just read in the paper that if you're a teenager you can get a GPS box kinda like a black box fitted to your car by the police which doesn't allow you to drive between 11pm and 5am, if you do then you get a £45 fine. They say it can halve your premiums and also the insurers are saying that they might be able to use it to examine your driving habits, i.e if you do alot of motorway driving then you can get cheaper insurance because statistically young drivers are involved in less accidents on motorways. If you're not too bothered about driving late at night they sound pretty good, has anybody else heard anything about them and negatives?

Didnt Norwich Union do this and then phase it out as virtually no one took it up?

Not surprised no one used it, all teenagers will usually want to drive often in those hours, as I did (going to parties, gigs, mates houses etc ) and not have to to worry about a curfew

I can see them introducing these black boxes for all sorts of reasons.

First it will be cheaper insurance if you fit a black box and don't drive at night or if you stay out of cities or whatever scheme you are on, then it will be more expensive insurance if you don't have a black box. Then it will be no insurance without a black box.

Me, paranoid?

yes. smile

And even cheaper insurance if the black box stays in you garage attached to a spare battery

if you stack it, the police wont be there straight away, just go chuck it in the nearest bin.

its only $40 so not much at all to keep your privacy whilst dropping your premium
