It seems that i am out of step with many many people here in that i am really not bothered about the way a car looks where as many many folk would crawl over broken glass to own a good looking car no matter how terrible it is.

Others won't consider a car unless it has 7 million buttons for things that are of no use whatsoever and will refuse to buy a car unless it has a button on the dash that makes the car go slower namely A/C

So what is most important to you

The bits that make it move and stop and go round corners or the rest of the pap that modern cars come with

I love my gadgets. When I used to drive around in a knackered old Metro I always said that I wouldn't need things like power steering, A/C, properly servo'ed brakes, but the truth is I'd never go back. I love climate control, leather seats, power steering, electric windows, brakes that don't scare the sh'ite out of you at anything about 30mph and I would've loved cruise control if it had been an option too.

I enjoy driving, and I enjoy really opening the taps up now and again, but most of my journeys are to and from work, around town or heading to meetings so comfort and ease of use is a bigger priority than the raw driving experience. Plus I wouldn't buy a car that I considered ugly, no matter how well it drove. Not because I care what others think, but because of what I think. No matter how amazing it might be to throw along a B road, if I don't like the looks then every time I walked up to it I'd still feel disappointed.

I get strange looks when I dismiss a car for not having double wishbone suspension...

The most important thing for me is how a car looks. I have to really like looking at it. smile
The oily bits are quite low on my list of priorities to be honest, but I can't have a car with a pathetic engine.

It should be a bigger part of the test, teach people to appreciate what is under the bonnet.

Oily bits...looks...that "something else"

I've owned some randm stuff to date (i'm 25) a few examples...

Landrover SIIa.....all three?

Jag XJ40...all three? the thrid was strong with this one

Several E30s...oily bits first!

928..probably looks actually, love them as a piece of design, and the 4.7 300hp V8 was a nice bonus wink

MX5...oily smile

I don't know if it's vanity but no matter how good a car is i would never buy it if i didn't like the look of it, classic example being Impretzas (sp) i'm sure they are awesome, but i cant bear the look of them, any variety but esp the earlier goggle eyed jobs, yuk yuk.

Definitely the "oily bits" for me, although suspension takes massive priority over drive train as far as I'm concerned. Looks have never concerned me much and if I wanted toys, I certainly wouldn't be running my current car as a daily driver.
