What is your specification of fast? 0-60 under 9 seconds, under 6 seconds?

If you looking for a 6 second car you probably will find it hard to insure.

The newer susuki Swifts 1.5 sport are quick.

As are Lupo GTI

Polo GTI

Ibiza GTI

These are probably sill reasonable for insurance while at the same time being ok for fuel economy.

I'm in a similar boat to you, i'm currently deciding on what my next car should be.

Celicas are reasonably nippy and not too bad on insurance, I've also been looking at polo GTIs as they seem to be fairly cheap to buy and insure. Both of these are in the 8 seconds range for acceleration, i've found that anything much faster than this tends to be pretty expensive to insure.
