Economy vs fun driving: 9%
Discussion
I tried to drive as economic as possible and got 565 kms out of 32 litres of Shell 95.
That's 9% better than my usual 520 kms full of redlining, throttle blipping and abusing my high milage b
h 5G Civic 1.3.
Conclusion: I can save 300 euros per year on petrol - and probably a set of tires - but will end up in a lunatics home. Simply because I need the kick of enjoying to drive.
Ah well, sorry to bother you

Drive like a hypermiler: I will still respect max driving speeds. I refuse to be capt. Slow.
Just short shift and stay there and avoid shifting back to 3rd to do a 60-90 mph.
My philosophy is an engine - well, my engine - needs the revs to stay in fine condition and will return friendly mpg for that. Engines that stay under 3K all the time built up dirt and stuff. Can't be good . . .

The Avensis is currently averaging 54 MPG. That's full bore off the lights around town, but sticking to the speed limits everywhere including the motorway. It was averaging 60 MPG, but the 50mph roadworks have mostly finished and it got ~75 mpg through them.
One thing I have noticed is that where there is new tarmac I get about 5 mpg more...it's tricky to be accurate because it's instantaneous readings but the incline is fairly gentle and consistent, but when I get on the new surface MPG jumps up. Is this deliberate? Is the Highways Agency using "better" tarmac for MPG now?

The 123d seems to do between 45 and 48mpg however i drive it. Therefore i pay no attention to economical driving, and make full use of the 250bhp of mapped diseasel oomph.
It did cost me £50 to fill it up today though, and that will only take me 500 miles, so i'll have to do it again in 2 weeks.
