So, today my girlfriend took her car into the garage to see exactly what was wrong with it, and its a VERY dead car.

She hit a speedbump at 50 and bent EVERYTHING!!! struts, axles, tortion bar, basically everything related to the suspension. As a result the car is a write off.

So, she has 1k to play with, needs to be something reasonably reliable, and no more that a group 6 insurance.
She likes the look of a 1.6 vtec civic (the one that looks similar to the accord type R era accord).

Any suggestions welcome.

Get her a buspass! she sounds like a liability! 50 in a 30 and not seeing a speed bump!

Not very PH, but a Micra K11 (93-2001) is bullet proof.

I think it could take being dropped off a cliff, seemingly indestructible.

In fairness i have come across speed bumps which look just like zebra crossings until you are absolutely right on top of them.

These look good for spotting speed bumps. Perhaps a copy of the highway code with the change (for something to read on the bus)hehe

in her defence the road is normally an NSL
they had a 30 restriction due to road works
they then put in a tarmac speedbump with no warings or white outline
the road works went away but the speed bump remained for an aditional day
was gone the day after and she didnt take pictures for proof.

the 30 signs were also taken away at the same time as the road works so there was no warning t was still there

Me too but they're usually in 30mph zones, not 50mph zones. . . . . . wink

I've never heard of a temporary tarmac speedbump before.

It must've caught out thousands of drivers being there a day after the signs were removed on a 60mph road. I'd put an ad in the paper if i were you so you can all start a class action for compensation. One of the many drivers caught out by it must've taken a picture after it destroyed their cars don't you think?

they put it in because no one obeyed the 30 restriction, and as the one lane was very narrow due to the road being narrow and coned off with enough space for lorries ETC to fit it it was only a matter of time before an accident occured.

They just didnt remove it the day they cleared up.
