Since getting a motocross bike SWMBO is starting to get a little annoyed with the Dyson ending up in the garage most weekends so I've decided I need to invest in some sort of small hand held device.

The handheld dysons look good, but are pricey.

Does anyone have any opinions of the hand held cleaners the likes of halfords sell? The garage floor is vinyl so fairly easy to keep clean.

Kirby G5.

£1495 when new (I used to sell them) on ebay now from £50. hehe

With all the attachments you will never need another vacuum cleaner again.

What???? £1495? Is the suction so strong it creates a mini black hole so you never need to empty the dust bag or something??!

I noticed yesterday asda have a bagless cylinder cleaner for £30, it could be my answer assuming it's not rubbish. Which it most likely will be.

Get the George model.

As it also does carpet and upholstery cleaning.

Very easy to use and gets great results.

Or an old Nilfisk. My folks have an old GS80 that they got when they married. 39 years ago. It's used for anything from curtains, to cars, and even cleaned under the sub-floors when we were building the house...

The chances are at that price it will be a generic Chinese cleaner which looks good, but does not last, most likely it will run hot and the motor will fail.

A Numatic is what the professionals use, that says a lot to me.

We used a George (Henry's big brother) when renovating the house. By renovating I mean stripping every wall in a 7 bedroom detached, sanding all the floors, complete rewire, the works. George never complained and kept smiling, even when sucking kilos of ash and dead pigeons(!) from old blocked up fireplaces that we uncovered. Empty into skip, rinse and repeat god knows how many times. They're brilliant.

We actually sell Henrys, but they're not entirely what I'm after. I was thinking more along the lines of a smaller cheaper unit. It's only for sucking up a bit of mud from time to time, I'm not demolishing the garage and rebuilding it smile

Here is the offending garage:

Don't forget James! I have a James as my in-house vac and its great. Don't know the difference between models though. I got it free from work when they got a new one.

Is it just me, or did anyone else think that a George was a cheap Asda version of a Henry?

Or go to the local tip, find a suitable Dyson, then arrange a full service which replaces all worn parts for £69 and gives a 12 months Parts and Labour guarantee.

It 'might' be worth putting some cuts in the hoses, that way you will get new ones fitted.

Plus this gives you a spare for the house should anything go wrong with that one, giving you brownie points with SWMBO!
