The prices changed on April 1st so if you were sent the reminder before this date and have only got round to buying it now then yes you'll have to pay the extra.

It "updated" recently. Loads of signs up in local P.O's about it, as the girls behind the counter had got fed up of arguing the toss with people. Mr Darling has a few more quid for the coffers now (take that, deficit! wait...)

Ahhh thanks for the quick response.

Was meant to get it taxed yesterday but had too much other stuff on. All sorted now.

Actually..

I only really brushed the surface of law while at college, but it seems like they are doing something illegal under possibly contract law?

They offered me 6months road tax at £104.50, I agreed to enter into this contract and suddenly the price shoots up £8.

Anyone up for class action against this shambles of a government? winkhehe

Mines gone up from £215 to £245.

The reminder was £215, when I went on the web to renew the other day it came up as £245.

There was no was you could renew before the 1 April anyway, so why put the old rate on?

I paid in the PO today and the guy explained that the rate had changed.

I don't know why the DVLA didn't put the new rate on. Mind you if they had they'd have only probably effed it up anyway.

Also if its a tax, why is there a difference in price if you pay 2x6 months rather than 12months.

The system is fked..

Because they have 2x the processing costs.
Because they make greater return on the money if you pay 100% up front instead of 50% so can offer a discount.

But its a TAX.

I dont pay a little extra PAYE because i get paid fortnightly rather than monthly.

Like I said, systems fked.

The lady said I was the first person whos tax had gone down rather than up.

Same here - reminder arrives in mid April asking me for £405. Renewed it on Friday and it cost £425.

I remember the old days when insurance was expensive and tax was cheap, now my cars are much cheaper to insure than to tax. frown

Just thought I'd point out that their 'reminder' wasn't an offer - if anything it was an invitation to treat. The offer was made by you when you said you'd like to pay the price you paid, they accepted it by accepting your payment.

I also experienced this problem, an increase from £190 to £205!!

As soon as the person at the counter told me I simply replied "What a rip off!" irked
