Well, After covering a glorious 1000 miles in the replacement van for the combo, I've broken it.
It's a Ford Transit Connect T220L (1.8 TDCi i think?)

Symptoms:

Engine started revving itself when idle, Not racing - Just a little kick as if you was tapping the pedal never over 1.5k RPM.

Van started lurching forward randomly.

Complete loss of all power (Compared to the general lack of power in it anyway.) - Feels like the turbo isn't kicking in.

Any idea's what the problem could be? Leasing company is closed until Tuesday and so i'm left with no transport at all until then - Going to cost me a fair few jobs over the weekend if i can't get it going.

Could be an air leak? I have seen similar symptoms when a vacuum pipe somewhere has a split in it letting air in the wrong place, causing a crap idle and loss of power.
I would start by checking the pipes for any splits, never looked at a transit engine but generally they will be fairly thin rubber pipes, even a small split can cause problems.

Check all the turbo pipes, sound like one has become detached.

Cheers guys, I'll go take a look at the pipes. I should point out though, I'm not mechanically minded in the slightest. Not sure i should be admitting it here but it took me 10minutes to work out how to open the bonnet!. Put the key in the front of the van like a noddy car then turn it twice! I was fumbling around for a lever...

Many a time I've come out of my house to find the engine missing, Pesky Engine thiefs.

Looks like the PH theory may be correct.. I'm going to try and describe this in all the technical jargon i can but:

One of the tube-thingys that comes off the Intercooler and goes into the Engine doo-dad is absolutely covered in Oil, With a suitably large splash area of oil on the components around it. Checked the hose clips and they're still tight and in-place, Couldn't see any splits in it though. Guess i'll have to leave it for the professionals on tuesday and just take the hit over the weekend.

On the bright side, I don't often get a weekend off in the sun..

Actually in certain circumstances the dealer will fit a lock with a different key from the door key to keep certain owners away from the enginebay

This maybe time to ask for that upgrade

Could be worn or blown turbo seals and the motor is runningon the engine oil. Usually symptom is racingmotor, but not always, particularly if this is a small leak initially

Oi Cheeky! I won't go removing anything, Was just hoping it'd be something simple like a hose working loose in which case, I may just be able to get my Ape-like brain around sliding it back on. Theres nothing obvious so i've left it be!.

Also, I'd imagine locking you out of the engine bay may cause a few problems come time to top up the oil/washer bottles etc.

Theres a little rubber vacuum hose that goes to the Turbo wastegate diagphram if its an older shape Connect. That might be worth a look at if its split.
