Cameras for filming on track & standard use?
Discussion
Hi All,
After numerous track days and 'spirited' memorable drives in the countryside without a cam I have decided to move with the times and buy some more tech to record this year's antics.
Now, I'm no technophile, nor am I technology adverse, however I'm not looking for top flight kit, just gear that's easy to use, without there being darn wires everywhere. Also, if a separate mic with some form of wind noise reduction could be plugged in that would be a real bonus (I want to hear the exhausts, not gusts of wind!).
HD would be great, if possible.
If anyone has used a standard pocket style cam (with video capability) with good results, please ket me know also.
Many thanks for any help/recommendations.

Someone shot this viedo: http://s727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/BigDave24...
with this camera: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Mini-DV-DVR-Sports-Video...
Seemed to cope OK but unsure if it's what you're after. For that price you can't really go wrong though.

Guys, thanks heaps for the quick replys.
I like the smartycam jobbie, but some of the cars I'll be using it it/on don't have an ECU! Especially the latest purchase, the Cobra replica.
I'll delve into your suggestions and let you know what I end up with (may even post a vid, especially considering we're off to the Le mans Classic!)
Cheers,
C.

My mate Gary took this on his flip camera mounted to a minitripod thingy held in place with a cable tie to the dash grab handle...

I use a Canon Legria mounted on the head of a tripod which is affixed to the Petty strut on my Birkin S3.
My choice of camera was based on two factors:
1 - Should record to some sort of solid state device (SD card in this case) so no moving parts in the recording mechanism to go wrong
2 - Mic jack so that I could plug in an external mic to get car sound. I bought a cheapie mic, wrapped the head in sponge and chucked it behind the passenger seat.

Hmmm, that looks rather good. It fits well into the multi use requirement, too. Thanks for the heads up. My choice of camera was based on two factors:

Another vote for the DV80 here. I bought one from Ebay for £18 and a class 6 8Gb card for £12 and the results were much better than I had expected. I used one of the supplied mounts and stuck the camera infront of the steering wheel. Best of all it's only the size of my thumb and is dirt cheap can't ask for more from what I only wanted as a toy.
See my first attempt at using the camera here Sorry it's a bit long! Oh and the date and time are wrong.

GoPro HD Motorsports Hero.
I have a GoPro camera, not the HD model though.
I comes with all manner of fixing mounts, no wires or cables, it runs on 2 x AAA batteries and a 2gb/4gb/8gb card.
