Hi,

I am hopefully passing my driving test soon, and am looking for help on which car is teh best for my first time and my needs.

I will be out with friends driving around so it has to be something that looks decent, but not chavvy. As well as this I will be installing a Sub so it has to be all ok on that front, also I will be driving from my place to Devon as much as I can, as I have family down there, so something pretty economical as I want to be buying as little fuel as I can.

My budget is around £3500/£4000 [To add, thats not including insurance, my parent is buying the motor and i'm paying insurance. I'm wanting no more than £250 monthly for insurance, and as well as this, is it a bad idea to be put on as a named driver, cheaper?]

Another note, I'm learning in a Kia Sportage, so I want something thats not too much of a difference in driving ability.

Thank You in Advance

Sam

Hi ya,

I'd advise something thats a diesel for the fuel point of view. On the insurance sides aim for something thats not 'too desirable' even a dreaded 4 door. Maybe a Astra 4dr diesel? or honda they are good engines. best cars I've found for installs have been Golfs 'pretty solid build quality' don't go down the Saxo rout though had a few of them. However the 1ltr petrol was good for 40mpg ish so thats was a plus but the 3 stud hubs made alloys a pain to find. Corsa's are ok but up on the insurance as mainly driven by 17yr olds and chavved to hell.

best plan do test then book straight on the pass plus and then get your motor a week later go around a few dealers and try test runs.

Personaly Saabs are fantastic! not sure on the insurance side for you though.

That budget with or without insurance?

Late 106 with change, Polo, Fiesta, early 1.3 Swift should be in for that now

I'd go 106 as well. Even the cheapest model is a complete hoot to drive. Pick one up cheap, get a years' safe driving (and NCB) under your belt, and trade up when your insurance drops 50% next year.
