my car is due it's MOT soon, I know it needs some new rubber which I will be sorting shortly, I have two small problems with the car at the moment, the rear washer jet isn't working and the drivers window mechanism is broken, so it is jammed/duct taped closed at the moment. I will be getting these fixed when I have the cash but wanted to know if these issues will be an MOT fail or if these would get through.

i would have thought they could both fail?

if you have washer jets, pretty sure they need to work regardless whether it's front or rear. even though a lot of cars don't have rear windscreen washers.

Rear washers aren't part of the test, so don't guess.

And neither is the up and downyness of the windows.

It wont fail on either.....unless you have an arse of a tester who makes things up.

Are number plates part of MOT? As in... can my car pass without number plates?

(Sorry for thread hijack, but i have a feeling that 2 of those replies are from MOT testers...)

my tester will fail you if you windscreen washer bottle needs topping up, so could see people failing if the washer jets won't work. not a great deal different from faulty wiper blades, which do fail. no? that's for the front of course...

If the car is registered it needs plates fitted.

Your tester is doing things wrong then as its not part of the test.

Exactly. If when the lever is operated no water hits the screen it's a fail. That could be for any reason pump not working or empty bottle. But it IS a fail. BUT ONLY front washers are tested, rear is not testable. And windows are not tested either smile

To the other guy asking about plates. It's a strange one. If the car is unregistered in the UK it doesn't need them. Import for example. If it is then it does. And they have to be the right font, size etc
