I have just come from juction 27 to junction 25 today and have just noticed that after every single overhead gantry, there is a set of speed camera markings on the road.

I know that they are keeping the SPECS cameras after it has been finished, but speed cameras on every overhead sign, a bit much i think.

I presume like on the M42 / M25 there won't be camera's in everyone. But you never know which.

they are for when the hard shoulder is opened up, and speed limits will be apparently strictly enforced

http://icbirmingham.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0100l...

for quite a while, the M42 cameras weren't even active.
Still, if you'd rather the govt. stops spending money on cameras, tell them on thursday!

I don't think the M1 is going to be running Dynamic Hard Shoulder Running on that section. My understanding, is that it will be a controlled motorway with variable speed limits and that some (but not all) gantries will have the PEEK cameras fitted.

I thought the gantries are 500m apart for DHS running but could be wrong. I'll check IAN111/09 if I get the chance.

Given how many times you have posted that, are you commenting on every single gantry on that stretch? biggrin

IAN111 is for hard shoulder running and the gantries are placed at 600m to 1000m spacing. Section 10.10 refers http://www.standardsforhighways.co.uk/ians/pdfs/ia...

Then IAN111 refers back to IAN87/07 ( http://www.standardsforhighways.co.uk/ians/pdfs/ia... ), which Section 2 seems to be applicable. Gantries are placed at 800m min. to 1000m max. where there are 4 running lanes.

They seem a lot closer than every 12-17 seconds apart to me, (travelling at 65mph).

But I could also be very wrong.
yea, you can say that again!

You also have to wonder why most of the Specs are hidden just after a gantry or bridge so you see them at the last moment. I'm sure that'll cause some panic breaking.

I like TVRMoneypit's vehemence on this one! hehe

I have to travel that stretch every day. They have now opened up the 4 lanes between 27 and 25. And all the complete fkwits, who, now they have been given an extra lane, STILL don't use the inside lane when doing 45 in the 50, but take up the 2nd and 3rd lanes, leaving just the 4th lane AGAIN for folks who are driving at the correct speed to get by.
