I'm startled at what I've just read,
which was the running costs of a Bugatti Veyron.

Are you sitting down :

A New alternator with fitting ( engine out job ) is 40k !

Four new tyres are 25k every 2500 miles !!

New wheels are 30k which need to be renewed every third tyre change.

First service is 13k

A One year extended warranty is 38k

I read somewhere that some tosser who bought one had it taken on a trailer to the place he wanted to pose and he arrived in his jet. When he'd posed, someone took the car back for him, on the trailer, and he returned home by jet. Because it was cheaper.

VW are pretty bad though TBH. They recommend new shocks on a Polo every 30k. I'm sure the car doesn't suddenly become lethal at 30k.

I take it blackcircles don't do the tyres and you can't get an oil filter from Halfords for it. scratchchin

Why? Is it the same if you go round the North Circular at an average of 25mph, or if you do 200mph in Germany?

Even if the engine does need to come out, how can you justify an alternator for £40k?

I watched Tiff Needell on 5th Gear saying a Ferrari Enzo costs £3000 every 6 months to service while the Mclaren F1 can cost up to £30k. They're both off my list now.

It's best to take these figures with a large pinch of salt, until you hear them first hand from somebody who owns a Veyron smile

EVO did a feature on Supercar running costs a while ago, and the Veyron was miles more expensive than anything else, in fact a Zonda appreciates so much that you'd make money owning one for 5k miles a year for three years! The Enzo and Carrera GT weren't that bad either.

If I was super rich I'd have a Zonda and race an historic F1 car instead :-) I don't see the attraction in spending all that cash on a two tonne four wheel drive car...

I'm told that that kind of behaviour is quite common with people that pay fortunes for classic cars. Get it transported to your pad in the South of France, drive to some poncey bar, get seen, have it transported home again. Or you could spend a few grand on any number of cars, and enjoy the drive there and back.

I don't see how anyone can. But at the end of the day what choice do you have? It's not like a quick call to Euro Car Parts* and get them to pop a new one round...

It's a one million quid car, so little wonder that it's expensive to run.

*Other parts suppliers are avaiable biggrin

I don't see how any of the info the OP listed can be surprising to anyone.

To be fair though, if you were going out regularly.. I'd imagine the same, long, drive would get pretty tedious no matter what you're in.

If you can afford to buy one , then you can afford to run one.

eek If £6k a tyre doesn't surprise you, then £40k for an alternator must do, surely? Plenty of professional race teams will charge you that to run a Formula 3 car for a season at club level! That includes several clutches, numerous strips and rebuilds of parts of the car, loads of fresh tyres fitted, plus transportation of the car to tracks all over Britain, and the time of two trained mechanics at the circuit and all week prepping it. Oh, and hire of the car, not to mention storage of it between races. How on earth can you not be surprised that Bugatti charge that to change an alternator?!

Put it in context :

Alternator 3.33%
Tyres 2.08%
Wheels 2.50%
Service 1.08%
Warranty 3.17%

Most of those figures ARE less than the same things relative to the purchase price of my car.

If I could afford a Veyron, I'd be saving money relatively! smile

I think 38k for an extended warranty is a steal. What would a new engine for a Veryon cost if it went bang, 200-300K?

It's is perfectly relative to the price of the car, but to real worldy peaple such as most of us those figures are ridiculous.

Although as posted if you have the money to buy one you should be able to run it, but surely something that expensive would take the fun out of owning it.... It's just to serious.

Anyway I'm bemused by these figures eek
