Hello,

Well it's another "What car" but this one's gonna be a bit more boring!

My girlfriend had an accident and wrote off her mk3 MR2 at Christmas. She decided to not have a car for a while but she really wants to get back on the road now. She also managed to get 3 points on her license in the courtesy car (brand new Insignia). So she now has zero NCB, accident history with write off, 3 points, she's 23 and insurance seems to be ridiculous now so she's looking for a car with insurance group 1 or 2.

What should we look at. Unfortunately the budget is only going to be around £2,500 or so and it will just be used to get us to and from work when we don't feel like cycling as my Audi is becoming expensive to use everyday. Any advice on what to look for and what to avoid? I'm thinking along the lines of a Toyota Yaris....

Thanks,

Dan

1.0 Corsas are about as cheap as you can get for insurance, but they aren't the most well made cars ever.

Series III Land Rover or early 90, and try the NFU. Suspect they will be very cheap by comparison. smile

A Landrover! I'm not 100% sure she'll like that! It's a bit different to her MR2. Would be good for towing our boat though....

Just got a couple of insurance quotes for her and me as a named driver.

£738 on a 1.0 T2 Toyota Yaris which is insurance group 1
£783 on a Yaris T-Sport smile

Not much difference really, might give up on the idea of a group 1 or 2 car and just rely on insurance quotes.

Hang on, let's see:

'aren't they the most well ever made cars.'

'well aren't they the most made cars ever.'

'well made cars they aren't the most ever.'

'the ever made most well cars aren't they .'

Nope, sorry. As you were! wink
