Been offered a Mitsi FTO GR (v6, non-mivec) auto for 'around' £200. It has no tax or test, but service history. Needs a new tyre and battery and possibly an exhaust section (due to one hole).

Apparently it can judder a bit when pulling off quickly, like lifting up the clutch too fast.

What do you think?

Surely at £200 if you can't fix it, the parts would see more than your money back?

I would buy it purely to break it, not worth fixing imo. Good examples can be had for well under a grand, clutch judder could be a warped flywheel which is a lot of work.
Definitely worth getting though if you can break it up.

As previously said, even if it's completely knackered, it's got to be worth more than that in parts? Go for it.

Its an auto, I guess it has some sort of clutch though. Its like a fractional delay in going into gear when you punch it from standstill. Any idea what causes that?

Oh and to update its got 77k on the clock and it had the belts done at 50k.

There is no clutch on an automatic gear box. Instead you have a torque converter and the operation is totally different.

Bascially, the autobox is junk and it needs a new one. Costs range from 1500 -2500 for the job.

So its a for spares job. If you decide that your valuation on your time is low enougth to justify stripping the car for parts and weighing the chassis in, then go for it.

Hmm, I'm trying to explain it best I can. Its been running like that for about 10k and 2 years. Is it most likely a new autobox needed? Its no un-drivable in anyway.

i would say buy it, run it and when it goes wrong split the parts and sell on!

Sounds like a bargain. If it doesn't work out you can sell off the body panels and other decent parts and easily (very easily) make that money back.

What colour is it? Any pics?

Buy it, join the members club for £18, get all the parts and advice you need to get it up and running properly and then sell it on for maybe £1500 when it's all working.

Most parts are relatively easy to come by, some more expensive than others, and the car as a whole is pretty easy to work on.

The juddering could be a number of things but you could start by properly cleaning the air filter, reset the ECU, check all hoses/connections are tight (especially wiring to lambda sensor), Throttle Position Sensor could be dying, maybe try cleaning the stepper motor. Seems to be an issue with manuals as much as Tip-tronics.

Hmm, but will it pass the Mot? Hassle to take it apart then sell the parts too, no?

There's a reason it's £200 - must be fooked somewhere.

Only OP will know for sure.

Yeah but a tyre and bat, possibly exhaust (around £200 for the lot) to get a car to run for a bit, parts would strip pretty easily and you'd get circa £1000 back for everything - espeically with an engine only on 77k ..

If the OP dont want it i will buy it for £200

Its fooked in his wallet. The car is an unfortunate casualty of the recession. Realistically with a T&T it should be up there with the £1500 for sale, but speed and cash are in requirement.

Its burgandy, but no pics

Buy it throw it on ebay and make a quick tidy profit. Failing that buy it sort out the tyre, battery and exhaust and enjoy it.

Worth the £200 for parts and scrap.
