Saw a mega-mileage Octavia estate last night and thought I'd ask the dealer how much they wanted for it. They phoned me back and refused to sell it to me as they thought it might need megabucks spent on it soon and they wouldn't be happy about selling it to me for that reason - it's going straight to auction!

Very honest, I thought.

If you want it why don't you offer them an amount similar to what it would achieve at auction?

I presume they're obliged/it's their policy to provide a warranty of some form?

If they suspect it's going to be a ballache that keeps coming back to them then alot of people will simply move it through auction.

If you want it, ask them which auction it is going to. The don't want to sell it to you because if they sell it to you directly they are liable for it, if you buy it from them via auction you have no comeback against them.

They wouldn't dare, there's no such thing as 'sold as seen' or 'trade terms' when you buy off a dealer. I don't know how those back street dealers get away with it in their adverts.

Had a similar experience

Offered slightly under on a 335d m-sport, wouldn't budge a penny. Different story if I had taken out PCP. Crazy considering it was a low spec that has been sitting on the forecourt for at least 3 weeks.

In hindsight, glad i didn't get it. Overpriced.

I think if you read the original post again, you'll find it's not a similar experience at all....

Yes, it is different... I'm still fked off at the stubbornness of demanding full asking price and no less (unless i take finance). Considering the gross profit, on principle; i'm venting.

I had a similar experience once. I crashed a motorbike.

What's that?

It's not similar at all?

wink

Makes a change from them not being bothered to expend the effort to sell me a car, which is what's happened to me on the last 5 occasions i've visited/phoned a dealership
