To say I was shocked was an understatement, ok well maybe not, the girl was at University afterall which probably explained a lot.....but how the hell can it take SEVEN attempts to pass your driving theory test? Surely after the fifth attempt the learner should be banned from driving anything with wheels attached!

I overhead the first-honours lemon proudly stating that she finally passed the theory whilst I was waiting in the doctors surgery, passing 7th time around is something I would NOT be proud of!!

Passed it first time, took some of those CD practice ones made by the DSA but never really failed those either once I knew what I was doing.

I did know a guy at college (was a bit slow though and would not want to be on the same road as him anyway!) that took 5 attempts to pass...it has now run out though as he did not pass his practical in time.

Whats a theory test? Like a GCSE? Does it enable you to drive more classes of vehicle on a standard licence?

Sorry i'm inebriated drink and old wink

Passed my theory test on my 17th Birthday, went ahead and booked my practical test for the following week, and passed it.

I'll never forget that feeling.

I passed my driving test first time, despite having to do an emergency stop due to trying to run a red light before I remembered where I was and what I was doing.

I didn't have to do a theory test -- but I'm sure I'd have got through.

Car: First time, no mistakes (pre-hazard perception).

Motorbike: First time, clicked a bit early on some of the hazard perception stuff though.

I fail to see how all these companies mug people for their money with the books, CDs, etc. - get a copy of the Highway Code, look at the DSA website for some sample questions, and spend a night or two flicking through the books/websites. Not exactly difficult, and I'd be worried if someone needed more than two attempts to pass the exam.

Once, done some practise on the CD test couple of nights before and passed easily. This was with the earlier hazard perception.

Girlfriend is currently learning and I had a pop at her practice CDs.

Missed a couple of the braking distances because I am st at guessing a distance however I am fully aware of what is too fking close visually but I couldn't tell you the exact meters.

Shame other people don't understand stop in the distance you can see!

I failed it once, because my (ancient old duffer of a) driving instructor told me emphatically that I did not need to know anything about towing or caravans.
Cue 6 questions about towing and caravans, got all 6 wrong. Failed as you have to get 30 out of 35.

I showed the results page (which is broken down by category) to my instructor. He reluctantly agreed to refund my test fee, but I still fired him.

Did another test a month or so later, and got 35 out of 35.

+1

Got one of those DSA/BSA/Whatever CD/DVDs though - mainly for the hazard bit
