Hi Gents,

A question on behalf of a friend, does anybody know what approximately an independent would charge for (on a golf gti mk5)...

a) cambelt and water pump change
b) minor & major service
c) brake discs and pads
d) 4 tyres fitted (17 inch)

As always, thanks in advance smile

Based upon owning a LeonFR (same chassis, same engine) -

4 x decent tyres = £3-400. Mine needed these every 6 months/ 6k miles biggrin
Minor service was about £140, major around £250 IIRC

Are they belt or camchain? My old golf ( admittedly the 1.6fsi) was chain but some had belts? I had to call Vw directly with my reg so they could identify the engine number and configuration.

Not sure about the rest but I have the same size tyres on my Golf and pay £96 a corner for decent Bridgestones.

Bit cheaper if you get all 4 done at once.

Thanks for the responses guys - it's appreciated.

Any ideas on water pump+cambelt & brake discs+pads?
