What would you get?
Discussion
Need a bit of advice deciding what my options are. I'm 25, got 9 points on my licence (had a bad 'don't give a cr*p' spell last year after 7 clean years
) but I fancy a fun car, maybe up to £15k.
I was going to wait until the points come off (I'll be 27 then) and then get something a bit crazy but the itch is getting itchier!!
Any ideas of things that are fun yet not too bad on the insurance? M5 might be do-able, Cerbera is £3.5k, s2000 £2.5k...
Or should I just get a cheap cheap shed to build up my no-claims until the points come off? I was ready to buy a Fiat 126 bis as confused.com quoted me £133 - bought car etc everything great until I happened to mention to the ins. company that I wanted it to build up my no claims, "oh its a classic car policy so you don't build up any no claims on it!!"
Cheers

Forgive me as this is becoming somewhat of a Cliche...
an MX-5.
They are great fun to drive (I certainly have a giggle in mine), will hustle along when you want to, but more important, you can have a lot of fun driving well within the speed limits, which is probably rather important to you!

But its just not my style!
Any other options? What are caterhams like on insurance?
Caterhams are really cheap on insurance :-) Elises aren't too bad either. Believe me, even if you don't go for one of the faster versions of either, they're both far more satisfying for most drivers than a bigger powerful car.

Personally I'd wait for something quick. 1 more strike and you are out. I'd remove the temptation myself if you value the freedom and convenience that a driving licence gives you.
Also, they may come off your licence in 2 years, but you'll be declaring them on your insurance until you are 29.

Don't some companies just ask if you've had any convictions in the past 3 years? Also, they may come off your licence in 2 years, but you'll be declaring them on your insurance until you are 29.

I would wait a bit and get the insruance down to something more sensible - that a lot of money you will blow in a couple of years otherwise.
try something slower but still fun - as suggested.
Also - without being rude- perhaps invest some £s in an advanced driving course or two. Might improve your observation. more points now and you are F8cked
I think most do ask about convictions in the last 5 years - alghouth I don't know how they weight things.

do you:
a) do a small mileage
b) only use the car for SDP with no business
c) have a drive or garage.
If you can answer yes to all 3 I'd recommend a classic insurance policy and go for something older.
I have an E34 M5 and a camaro on classic pols and it saves me a fortune.
Whilst its not everybody's choice, I recommend that later as loads of sideways fun for few pennies.
At your budget you could do a shed (for NCB) and a caterham for the weekends.
