Cars under the insurance radar
Discussion
After seeing the "pic of the week" i thought it would be a great idea to get some quotes on some lovely cars, that I thought may sneak under the high insurance radar (not assosiated with ASBO's crashing them).
To put you in perspective, i'm 22, and due to some points for a DC10 (motorbike crash, not my fault but thats another storey) i currently pay £850 ish for a 1.6 shopping trolley. A new golf GTi will take around £3000 out my pocket. A 5 door BMW 118d will cost me to the tune of £1700... so you get the picture.
I tried the E30 M3 - just over £3000.. bit steap.
Next, 4.0 M reg Jag XJ6 sport - came in cheap (ish) at £1900
When I tried the Merc 190 cosworth it came in at a stonking £1600! Bargin if you ask me.
Not that cheap really, but if I had the money to buy the merc i'd pay that for insurance in the blink of an eye. As you can probabaly tell, i'm at work and VERY bored.
What do you think will come in suprisingly cheap for you? Any quotes?

Do you still ride ? If you're looking for performance, I'd say stick with bikes and deal with a cheap car till insurance goes down.
I don't ride at the moment. When I had the bike, it was my only trasnport and I hated riding in freezing fog, hail etc to get to work. After the crash got a car, and although I do want another bike it wont be until I can afford to run both a car and a bike for that reason. Riding in s
t weather is a chore IMO. Anyway, i'm not currently looking at buying these cars, just trying to find gems that can sneak under the high premiums.

For some reason when he's on a bike he tends not to be able to see red, particularly if it's a light on a pole by a crossing. allegedly. Back on topic, jags and old porches seem to be pretty good at lots of bang for your buck

Have you tried classic car policies. You'd be surprised at what qualifies and although there is lots of smallprint, the premiums can be surprisingly low. Old 911 ?
Ill try and old 911... but i'm just using confused.com, I'll get back with a price.balders118 said:

I'm looking at getting my first car plus insurance in the next month as i'll have just passed test hopefully.I'm male, 27 and live in a reasonable area but i'm struggling to get quotes under £1k and thats for Yaris,Felicia,Clio etc with no commuting.
Is it possible to get classic insurance in your first year because it says on Lancasters site you need to have held a licence for 3 years?

Most classic car policies will require the use of another 'main' car as classics are meant for 'highdays and holidays' so no good in my opinion.
None of my classic policies have ever required such a thing. I used my last 944 as a daily driver on a classic policy. balders118 said:

On that note, the V70R of 1998/2001 era slips under nicely!
