My wifes car copped for a nice dent on the wheelarch, paint removed, metal dented, we paid Nineteen thousand, hard won, well considered pounds for it, it has been hit before, once on the front arch, door into the side and luckily this time someone saw it and dobbed the culprit in, I rang the insurance and they are pursuing it and as we have a witness they reckon it wont be a problem.

What are your thoughts on this, I think it stinks to damage someones property and scuttle off and am glad to be potentially getting it sorted, my wife thinks I am getting "bitter" in my old age (39) but come trade in time it will lower the value of the car and annoy me every time I look at it.

Ask your wife if it's OK if you piss in her handbag? Same thing, surely?

Leaving the scene of an accident weather it's a tiny tap or a total write off is the same offence. Give the drivers details to the Police chase them up and make sure the driver of the vehicle that hit yours doesn't get away with it. So just maybe they won't do it again.

Within a week of getting my car (07 MINI dooper) back from the bodyshop for a mahoosive scrape (my fault), im the proud owner of 2 dings - rear bumper where fkwit with towbar attached has chipped and scraped some paint off, and after today's outing, some fkwit put a pindent in the passenger door after parking too close.

Im very tempted to just take photos of the numberplates before and after I park, so I can chase up. Also very tempted to just take the stanley knife in the boot and run it up down a car that dent's mine.

sometimes have had to move my car, lets say that the doors were really close and could easily hit the other car when got out, problem was the other car was covered in dents already, so might not be the guilty party smile

generally leave my car in the furthest point from say the store entrance..

Happened to a friend today in a side street, front wing, light, bumper and bumper insert broken.

No notes or anything left. May be covered by CCTV as happened in vicinity to a pub, plod pursuing that line of enquiry.

I think if you have a nice car you need to be careful where you park it, because most people will just sod off if they bump it, some might leave details but most people who open a door onto your car leaving a small dent won't think it's a problem, people have no respect for property anymore

End of last month an Italian guy living in the UK reversed into my Toyota while parked. I caught a glimpse of it on CCTV, went out and he had parked up and was about to try a house opposite to find the owner.

My uncle was parked somewhere and a Belgian hit his Fiesta. They also left ALL their details on his windscreen.

Maybe non Brits are more honest?

I had a mad bint in a Polo drag her wheel arch along the rear corner of my '5 whilst parallel parking. She never even finished the job - pissed off to her lecture with her car over the lines in my bay (so I couldn't actually get out!) without even buying a ticket. Whilst I was taking photos of the damage she returned, engaged THE MENTAL and tried to grab my camera for "taking pictures of her private property" eek. Told me she'd be in touch with my insurance company for some reason, and when I told her not to bother as I'm TPFT and it's her fking fault, she told me I was an uninsured chancer.

She wouldn't give me her details so I phoned the police, who to their credit turned up and put her in her place with regards to the scene she was causing, but told me unless I had actually witnessed the accident there was nowt I could do. No CCTV covering the area. Typical.

The annoying thing is, if she had just left her details, I would have probably written it off as an innocent mistake and let her off just for being honest about it.

Mates now ask me why, despite having tons of work done to the car to get the bodywork up to condition rust-wise, and generally looking after the car meticulously, I don't bother with any polishing/washing beyond a weekly "service wash". It's because of parking-inept psycho bhes like her, that's why. Why bother if some ahole is going to ding it? frown
