LFA vs GT-R 1/4 mile race
Discussion
Motortrend.com test a Japanese pre-prod LFA side by side with GT-R along the 1/4 mile.
K&N provide dyno for the LFA power test, here are some of the headline numbers for the LFA
430bhp / 283 lbs/ft, 207mph vmax, 90% of power delivered before 4,000rpm, 60-0 in 94 feet,

So .2 of a second and 3 mph over a 1/4 is worth 4 times the price? Not to me it isn't. Toyota/Lexus have really made a collossal error of judgement with this car IMO!
But its not a drag car is it? if 1/4mile times are all that matter to you then neither of these cars are right for it.So .2 of a second and 3 mph over a 1/4 is worth 4 times the price? Not to me it isn't. Toyota/Lexus have really made a collossal error of judgement with this car IMO!
edit oh and its a repost anyway

^^ No logic in that statement IMO.
By a cheap Seven-a-like and that would be as quick as the GT-R acceleration wise.
The LF-A may well be expensive, but it's a bit different to the GT-R.
Personally, not so sure. Both were designed for circuit work. Sure, the 1/4 mile isn't their ideal place. But round a circuit, I suspect the GTR would edge it. So I'm not sure where the extra cost comes from. If they had done these for 60-80K they'd have sold thousands!By a cheap Seven-a-like and that would be as quick as the GT-R acceleration wise.

It sounds like every other high revving V10. A E60 M5 sounds the same. And is £60K. They are aiming the LFA at SLR/Carrera GT owners. Is it THAT good? I suspect not. They should IMO (note that acronym!) have called it Supra. Chucked out 3000 of them at £70k and made more money. By pricing it at that range, they've missed a trick. You'll never see one on the roads, the brand doesn't get anything tangible to the ordinary Toyota/Lexus owner. It's largely irrelveant. And the video at the top proves it's not even that much better than the main JDM performance car benchmark. Lexus CANNOT compete with hypercars. No heritage, no charisma. What they as a market do very well is "cheaper" performance.

Not a fan, but I can't see your point...
Lexus are reckoned to be LOSING money on every one made, they simply couldn't make 3000 at £70K, either financially or technically.
It's quick and sounds good, but I still think this is one for the completeist - If you just HAVE to own every supercar ever, you'll need a LFA.
Would be interested in seeing a LFA/Aston 177 comparison though.
I mean, really, if you think the GTR is competition for the LFA you would NEVER buy an LFA, it makes no sense.
If you want something bespoke and super hitech (above what it delivers in 99%+ of driving) then the LFA (and 177) is right up your street (more likely, you're super wealthy or a speculator)...

GT-R is a road car, not a cct car, it's way too heavy for a cct car, it just lunches the tyres/brakes/etc/.
Not sure the LFA is really a cct car either, both would get absolutely hammered by a Caterham or the like on a typical cct.

to move on from the debate regarding the LFA's cost, am I the only one to pick up on the numbers posted above - 430bhp / 283 lbs/ft...
ok the power figure is ok-ish, but the torque is pretty naff. I know V10s aren't notorious for their torque outputs but still....
something amiss there then?ok the power figure is ok-ish, but the torque is pretty naff. I know V10s aren't notorious for their torque outputs but still....
Toyota state
Power: 560 PS (411.9 kW; 552.3 hp) @ 8700 rpm
Torque: 480 Nm (354.0 ft/lbf) @ 6800 rpm
at 4,805cc that's ~13./5cc per ft/lbf, about right for a production engine (NA)
more likely, another dodgy rolling road dyno

Life and driving is not all about 1/4 mile sprints. There are cars that are even faster than the GTR and LFA, so does that render the GTR pointless? Its all about what you want. There are plenty of people who would line up to buy either car since they are aimed at different markets.
There is more to driving than just sprinting a 1/4 mile. How about corners, feel of the car and how it makes you feel? Or are these irrelevant?
