Parcel Shelf 6x9s in particular. I'm looking at getting a pair, but really don't fancy the idea of wires hanging all over the boot, etc.

Anybody with pictures of their install and how they hid/ran the wires would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is a suitable section, but didnt see any car audio dedicated sections.

Regards.

Replace the standard door speakers with components, linked to an amp if needed.

DO NOT buy 6x9's.

We don't have one. It will only go one way and is likely to attract the wrong sort.....if you know what I mean.

why dont you replace the door speakers then? or listen to the natural sound of your engine rather than dnb at 110dbs

Whatever you do, don't put 6x9s in your parcel shelf. All you need in a polo (or any small hatchback for that matter) is a decent small sub and components in the front powered by a proper amp, not the headunit.

The best speakers in the world still sound rubbish if they only have a 45w head unit driving them- a dedicated 2 channel amp will provide more than enough power and give depth and sound quality at volumes as high as you will ever need.

p.s. expect a lot more unhelpful stuff from people on here that pretend all they listen to is the thrum of a V8 all day. Everyone knows a good V8 thrum absolutely ruins the Archers wink

Also if you *must* get 6x9s or other 'big' speakers, get something like a stealth shelf to hide them and stop them flapping about quite so much!

One look at the "My Garage" Section will answer your second question. Door speakers would be far better, will look into that.
No need for the generalisations now. "rather than dnb at 110dbs" Only girls listen to it that low...

Amature.. As above posts point out. Upgrade your door speakers with decent components and a subtle subwoofer (if desired). Read over on Car Audio Forums with regards to SQ and providing the correct staging and imaging for your speakers and listening needs.

HTH.

Cheers, some informative stuff there. I really have no clue about this kind of thing, as can be seen by my considering parcel shelf 6x9s. Will have a look into door speakers, would love to be able to hide the replacements behind the original speaker cover too. Feasible?

Don't listen to them, everyone knows the best audio set-ups involve placing speakers with odd shaped cones several feet behind you facing directly upwards. They'll try and get you o replace your door speakers which as well as not offering the premium sound there will be no holes in your parcel shelf or any reason for some scrote to break into your car, which would suck.

I have a large Bose 'sub' on my parcel shelf that Mazda were good enough to fit and connect to many other speakers and to a hard drive music server in the dash.

None of which I can really see the point of as I only listen to Radio 4. smile

Possible, depends on the speakers though. There's a chance that whatever you buy to replace the standard with may be deeper. But you won't realise til you fit them, then try and open the window, and the glass gets halfway down the doorpanel, hits the magnet, and cracks.

So when you come to change them, pay attention to that!
Or pay someone who knows what their on about speaker wise and get them to get the correct ones fitted, you can even hide the amp and just have a nice, OEM looking set up.
