Is the best place to buy a classic car from it's country of origin? Are there usually more to choose from?

So if I wanted an E30 M3 would I be able to find a good one in Germany with less of a premium than a UK model? Likewise with a Ferrari 308/328, is Italy the best place to shop used?

I currently live in Canada so LHD is good.

If rust or weather damage is a consideration, look at the SW United States, including California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, etc. That's all I have to contribute. smile

I'd also add that much of where you could source a car from would depend on the strength of the local currency; and a minor point would concern your foreign language skills!
If all the world's supply of E30 M3s were in Japan, and the Yen was strong, then I wouldn't even try to negociate the language barrier, get raped on the currency exchange, then have to deal with import duties, reregistration, taxes etc.

Provenance can be important. A "UK car all its' life" car will be worth more than one that came here later in its' life, generally.
