ASTON MARTIN PARTNERS WITH NIKE BASKETBALL TO INTRODUCE THE NIKE KOBE BRYANT
Aston Martin has partnered with Nike Basketball to develop two pairs of exclusive basketball shoes, being introduced on Thursday 13 May at the Nike Basketball Signature Space at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.
Named the Nike Kobe Bryant (Aston Martin Edition) footwear pack, and including the Nike Hyperdunk (Aston Martin DB9 Edition) and the Nike Zoom Kobe V (Aston Martin Edition), the limited edition trainers commemorate the viral webfilm released in 2008, picturing Kobe Bryant jumping over an Aston Martin DB9 Volante. The short clip resulted in a groundswell of consumer interest in both brands, ultimately leading to this high-magnitude collaboration between the iconic athletic-lifestyle company and Aston Martin.
Inspired by a combination of Aston Martin products, including the elegant DB9 and the One-77 supercar, this unique collection incorporates craftsmanship, genuine materials, and attention to detail, further advancing Aston Martin and Nike’s continued innovation in iconic design and modern technology.
Event proceeds will de donated to the LA84 Foundation. To learn more about the LA84 Foundation go to http://www.la84foundation.org

Black music is a huge industry in the USA with money to burn, bling sells and this is free publicity. Most of the mainstream Aston buyers who are not active in owners clubs will probably never hear of this pr stunt, as won't view the same sites/channels/magazines as this specific target audience.

From those photos I don't really see how that shows the Aston Martin colour scheme. At least it doesn't have the badge plastered all over it.
This shoe features premium leathers and the Aston Martin logo on the tongue.Link contains more photos:

"The move comes after a tough year for the carmakers, as its Kuwaiti owners, the Investment Dar fund, had to admit it was struggling to refinance its massive debts. It defaulted on a $100 million Islamic bond in April last year"
http://www.birminghampost.net/birmingham-business/...
KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait’s troubled Islamic investment firm Investment Dar said yesterday it posted a loss in 2008 as authorities allowed it to publish its result after a one-year delay.
The company, which owns half of luxury British car maker Aston Martin and has debts worth an estimated $3bn, said on the Kuwaiti bourse website that it lost $279m in 2008 after a net profit of $458m the previous year.
Kuwait’s central bank had prevented Dar from publishing its results after objecting to the company’s asset valuations in 2008 amid reports that they were inflated.
The central bank and the bourse authority allowed Dar to publish the 2008 figures after it met a number of demands.
The investment firm has not yet published any results for 2009 and remains suspended from the Kuwaiti bourse. Dar’s assets declined from $4.37bn in 2007 to $4.16bn in 2008, yetserday’s statement said. The value of shareholder equity dropped to $700m from $1.35bn.
Last month, a Kuwaiti court granted Dar legal protection from creditors after allowing it to come under the emirate’s financial protection law.
The action automatically halts all legal action against Dar for part or all of its debts, which the company has already stopped paying. Dar has said the move is aimed at pushing through a debt restructuring plan backed by more than 80 percent of creditors but opposed by a minority, some of whom have filed lawsuits.
Under the plan, Dar will repay in full its financial arrangements to all banks and investors, the company has said.
Many Kuwaiti investment firms have been hit hard by the global economic downturn.
