I know of someone on another forum whos car was parked a couple of feet from her house on her drive and some scrote poured lighter fuel over the tyres and the soft top and set alight to it.

Now a write off!

Her house could have gone up too.

Scum!

It would appear however that it was related to the theft and subsequent resale (on ebay) of her own alloy centre caps, of which she spotted (by distinguishing marks in the photos) and reported. Then the chav who stole them went around and torched her car!

So, be careful - you never know what kind of nutter you are tangling with!

And what do the police have to say about this?

I would have been tempted to bid & win the wheelcaps & then agree to go round and collect them in person (with some of the boys), and teach the chav a lesson!

Theiving scumbags!

They are following up on it but evidence is circumstantial.

The thief knew where her car was parked since he stole her caps, she checks ebay for some replacements and spots her own set for sale, she then exposes that he is selling a lot of stolen and easily removable items on his ebay profile, goes to the police and reports him and the next night her car is torched.

A mere coincidence?

smile she did but the seller refused collection and cancelled her bid.

He obviously realised what was happening.

"not enought evidence"

that is a truly shocking story though.

All over a set of £30/40 centre caps.

Awful!

Could have been worse I suppose considering how close her car was to her house windows.

I saw some photos and I could not believe how anyone could do that.

Lots of scum out there, although this, puts the scrote I shouted at for littering this afternoon, into perspective

This type of scum define what a country becomes if this kind of decline propogates.

A lot of people no longer have any respect for people or the law.

I had someone try to nip into a parking space behind me that I had been waiting for in a car park and then when I would not move he threatened me with violence.

He hadn't been waiting as I had, he had in fact just driven around the car park past me (the wrong way) a couple of minutes before threatening to drag me out of my car and hospitalise me.

I didn't want the hassle so let him have the space but I did reverse up the rear of my car to an inch off his passenger side door so his wife had to climb across the seats to get out the other side wink

I got home and checked his reg number and found he had no current tax and no insurance, reporting him was very satisfying smile

Pretty unpleasant behaviour, but I fail to see how it is a reflection on the entire country. Every nation has petty, vindictive people, not to mention more exotic criminals - kidnappers, serial killers, etc.

The fact that this incident is considered unusual suggests that it is not an everyday occurence and is therefore an isolated incident.

Having said that, it can't have been very plesant for the car owner in question.

I feel for your friend that must have been horrible, but

You're wrong in thinking there was never any crime, disorder or rudeness in this country before (insert hated polititian/regional stereotype/social periah here)

(Apart from a few wars, riots, murder, raping, pillaging etc etc)

Well, it was a much more pleasent place 20 or 30 years ago.

Sure, you still had murders but nowhere near as many.

You could walk home in the dark without fearing that you may never get home.

From both of your comments, I expect you are too yong to remember nicer times when more people had greater respect for others.

I'm not that old (41) so it does show that things have changed quite a bit in that short space of time.

Are you really proud to be British now?

I was reading Trip Adviser last night and there were so many comments about how rude and arrogant the British holiday makers are to staff at hotels and resorts.

It's embarrasing..

I'm 39.

I'm sorry for your friend, I really am, but this idea that 'the country' has 'gone to the dogs' is a tired old arguement that has been wheeled out for centuries.

Await a flamming from the Daily Mail Brigade and a rousing chorus of 'Roll out the barrel' and 'White Cliffs of Dover' wink
