  • Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006
-- this is the only saving grace.

It's a stupid system and no mistake. I have a 7.5t lorry that costs less to tax than my chuffing volvo. How does that make any sense?

That's just the first year rate I believe, not due every year. Have a 55 plated Legacy 3litre which if it was 6 months newer would be £425 but I scrape into the older bracket (for the moment at least) and pay £200 less than that. TVR is cheaper still as not only older but all classed as PLG and think I get £205 rate on that. I'll stick to running older cars I think hehe

my thoughts exactly. Its one thing paying over £200 but £400 for the same car a few months newer is just stupid hence il be sticking to pre 02 for a little while longer.

Is the £950 road tax only for the first year?

If so I thought this has been coming for a while, if not £950 a year every year is ridiculous

It's for the first year only on new cars, i'm sure.

Don’t be fooled into thinking the £950 road tax is just on sports cars or 4x4s. Purchase the wrong Vauxhall Insignia for instance and you’ll be paying £950 in first year car tax too...

Another thing that the Camerlegg duo should put on the to do list for reform...

The current system is unfair, crazy and needlessly complex.

It may well be "crazy, unfair & needlessly complex" etc, and I'm not defending it - BUT it's also been in place for just over 9 years.

9 'effin years - and still people post on a motoring forum expressing shock and confusion at how it works FFS!

Do you not take any interest at all in the annual Budget - or read the motoring press?

Jeez!
