Minis are not sold or marketed as BMWs, these cars will be.

The driven wheels are becoming less and less important for BMW. Notice their marketing messages are becoming more and more about 'efficient dynamics' rather than 'ultimate driving machine'.

The purists will of course hate it, but it's sales that count and there aren't enough purists to make the difference in that respect.

on heavily congested roads policed by speed cameras, it probably makes little difference if the car if front wheel, rear wheel or 4 wheel drive.

I have never driven a BMW, but would expect a front wheel drive one to still be a nice car to drive.

80 percent of BMW 1-Series drivers think the car is a front-wheel drive

As there isn't any real alternative if you want a modern RWD, and the majority of customers don't seem to care/know, there isn't much point in making RWD when FWD will be cheaper.

They already make FWD cars and most people who buy 1 Series and Mini's will be too stupid to know the differnce or too disinterested in dynamics to care.

No point making dull as dishwater poser mobiles with decent dynamics, its just a waste of money.

Nothing new i remember seeing spy shots of a E36 with the front wheels suspiciously near the back as it was FWD underneath

Sadly my google skills fail me to find them

If Land Rover can make a 2WD Range Rover then we may as well burn all tradition and have a FWD BMW. biggrin

That said i'm sure I remember the BMW adverts about the right wheels driving the car. I guess they'll be thrown in the archive bin then...

I'm sure the 3 series up will stay more driver focussed. As you can see from a lot of models BMW have bought out recently they are trying to have a model in pretty much every market sector.

Does this mean BMW will cover the supercar Market soon as well?
