Currently drive a Fabia vRS, very effective at what it does but something just doesn't quite do it for me... never really gelled with it, even after 2 years of ownership. However, it's dead cheap to run, which I suppose is a good thing in this current climate, with fuel going up and up and the fact I will need to buy a house at some point in the next two years!

However, my annual mileage is now <4000 miles per annum, so I've been looking to change to something more interesting... was set on a Mk3 MX-5, until the test drive - dull engine let down an otherwise great car. Parents have owned a RX-8 for 5 years and, to be honest, I've loved it since day one - the way it looks, the way it sounds, the way it revs, etc - apart from the petrol habit!

Cost to change cars is minimal, probably looking around £500. What would you do? How much of a difference in fuel costs annually would we be talking? Head says keep the derv, heart says sod it and enjoying hitting a 9000 redline for a couple of years!

It's a no brainer (no pun intended) - go with the heart.

As it is now, you are still shelling out a fair amount on insurance, tax, servicing etc on a car you don't gel with and given how low your mileage is you may as well get something which you will properly enjoy on the few occasions you do drive it.

I think they average about 20.

I had a test drive a few years ago when they were new, it was 16 when I got out.

Then factor in the oil.

It'll be a big jump from the Fabia even at low miles.

Worth trying the new one.. Or is it a budget thing too?

What about a MK1 and the fabia? wink

Oil is nothing.. £7 a litre, not even a litre a month smile
