Road Trip to Germany: Herts - Aachen, Frankfurt, Herts
Discussion
HI All,
BA + volcanos + the opportunity mean I'll be driving from home in Hertfordshire to Aachen in Germany then on to Frankfurt then home.
So:
Any advice on a) stuff I have to do to drive in Germany (bulbs triangles etc. etc.) and b) more importantly..the best route to take?
Thanks in advance.

you need a triangle, that's it for germany really
you need a reflective vest for france though
slightly longer route from Aachen to Frankfurt on the 61 takes you past the ring, be rude not to
IIRC you need a vest for each passenger and you need to be able to get to them without leaving the car, lots of people simply put them on the backs of the seats.you need a reflective vest for france though

Visit your local Hellfraud's, get a set of spare bulbs for headlights, triangle, and vests as a minimum. A fire extinguisher can come in handy, oh and don't forget to let your bank, insurance and breakdown companies know you're travelling abroad. It's not OCD, just common sense *goes away muttering to himself, nervously wiping hands with sanitising gel*
I suppose technically, yes, you should have a 1st aid kit too
I have never been asked to show one, or anything else like that, by a german cop in 13 years and lots of miles
a breakdown can happen, then you will need that triangle and vest
bring your car paperwork (insurance + logbook) and your licence, passport too, keep them on you, don't leave them in the car
