How can you tell if your car alarm is working?

Open your window, lock your car, stick your head inside.

Lock the car using the remote, then unlock the drivers door using the key in the lock and open the door.

Leave the dog in and go shopping. Odd looks all round.

What type is it?
Ultrasonic? As mentioned, get someone to sit in it.
Movement? Rock the car.

Unlock with remote.

Sit in car.

Sit in it and open it from inside? You should be able to disable ultrasonic sensors if the aim is to test the doors.

Should have said. I can't open my car manually only by using the fob.

Leave the window down, shut the door, lock the car and then stick your arm inside and unlock by either pressing the central locking button inside the car (not the key) or using the handle on the inside of the car. If the alarm is working it usually goes off when it is opened without unlocking the car with the key first

If its a zone alarm just leave the window open and wave your arm around. my audis alarm went off the other day when the dart tag dropped off the windscreen.
Though the alarm is about as loud as an ants fart so not much use really.

Not sure how to test otherwise as even if i leave my windows open if i lock the car it cant be opened from the inside as the lock button doesnt respond and if i use the key in the lock it turns the alarm off.

Rocking the car with alarm on is another option as mentioned of course.

Lock your car up normally but leave your dog/baby inside.

After a while they will move and set it off.

This might not work as well as the weather gets warmer, they might get dehydrated and not move as much.

Park it next to a field of caravans and watch for any developments from the other side of a hedge.
