Just seen this video, I must say he reminds me of the autisic kids I used to work with as a special education teacher. The lack of emotion or remorse and the ability - while the spill continues now, to laugh and joke is quite a trick...

Any of you bunch think the BP CEO is out of his mind? Is it right to call the oil spill modest? Any thoughts by all you BP buyers? J

He's defending the company's interests. I'm not sure what you'd expect him to say really.

As we have learned from george bush you can't really hide and deny public disaster and continue to prosper, even goldman sachs are losing customers.

BP may very well be done. But alas according to CBS news BP now have control of much of the coastline...

What are they hiding and denying? As far as I can see, BP have taken responsibility and are doing what they can to rectify it.

Do you ever buy Exxon fuel?

What are they hiding? They say that the damage is minimal, they are hiding the facts that the damage is huge.

Some of you on here are obviously rather oblivious to things like sea life, plant life, water pollution, contamination of march land and beach, even stuff like contamination of people. Interesting sub-group you particular band piston- brits are.

Not being picky here, but wasn't it transocean, a US company, who ballsed up? They have just filed for limitation of liability in the US at the insitance of the US insurance companies. How come none of the witch hunt has gone their way?

You should have as many barriers as possible to prevent this occurance. The three traditionalbarriers are:
1) Casing/cement to isolate the formation that has already been drilled. The speculation is that the cement job was poor. This means that any high pressure could travel outside the casing.
not BP
2) BOP to isolate the entire well. Basically a big set of cutters to chop the drill pipe and seal off the well. In some locations the BOP's are tested every 10days. or so to ensure that they work. The speculation is that this did not work.
BP should insist that these are tested (and take the costs associated with deviatingf from the plan. Transocean should also insist on this but they make money whether it is done or not.
3) Mud...
