Off to the Ring this weekend and having just spend some £££'s on the CSL don't fancy binning it. Anyone recommend insurance for the Ring - car, third party and armco/closure time...?

Thanks
Cuda

Nope. No one will insure you for a tourist day AFAIK (well, not anyone that will make the premium even remotely acceptable). You might have some luck if it's a private track day event though.

I couldn't even find daft premiums. I don't want to rant on about it again. There's enough threads out there. EU law says your ins co have to provide minimum of 3rd party coverage in the Eu. So you are technically covered. However, they will try to wriggle out of it by disclaiming toll roads (M6?) and nurburgring. or that coverall "we reserve the right to claim from the policy holder costs we don't like" rolleyes

As technopug says, if it was a closed trackday no one has insurance, so everything is Ok, and some ins co will cover your car.

Basically. UK car insurance companies are s! German companies don't have this nonsese, but from what I gather it's very difficult to insure a UK reg car in Germany. TUv etc needed.

HOWEVER, you want Irony? I recently insured my push bike and I was able to choose my public liability insurance if I wanted to. £0, £1m, £2m or £3m. (wasn't even horrendous!) So quite why road car insurers can't have this as an add on is beyond me! I guess as per above. Bunch of s!

I'd love to one day take my car to the 'ring, but having just read this AND the fact my policy specifically mentions the Nurburgring as somewhere I'm not insured, I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
I take it some of those that do go, just take the risk?

There was someone offering a policy to cover the costs of armco and track closure time....and that was it as far as I remember. And it was a lot of money for what it was.

But assuming the OP is looking for someone to insure them fully comp as per their road policy. I've not seen a policy yet. But there are rumors someone offers it. And those who know are not saying online to avoid ever tom dick and chav abusing the policy. And I don't blame them!

Yes on tourist days as it's classed as a road by the german police. They will ask for your policy documents if they stop you/you crash.

Your road policy will satisfy the legal 3rd party requirements. But policies vary and 99% (not a real statistic but you get the idea) it seems will not cover you financially leaving you open to your costs, and all other partys costs....

As said, by EU law, your insurer has to provide 3rd party insurance (it's still a public highway in the EU, regardless of what their exclusions in the small print say). So you will be covered by any 3rd party that makes a claim against you. However, your insurers will pursue you through the courts to recover the costs. If you seriously injure someone it could be a huge sum.

As for insuring your own car? No chance. You bin it, you pay for it. Same goes with armco, recovery, track closure etc.

Drive like it's a fast B-road and you'll be OK. Drive it like a race track or start chasing times and you risk coming unstuck. The fact that error on your part means potnentially losing your hard earned car, tends to focus the mind.....it's a gamble and you should never gamble more than you are prepared to lose.
