Been looking at the Avis Prestige site for a nice but subtle car to hire, but very put off with the excess charges. Something like the E Class coupe I can live with at £750 ish (also need to pay £15 a day extra waiver charge) but anything higher up is £1500 (inc ~£15 a day on top waiver or £3k ish without).

Not planning on crashing but worried I will spend more time worrying about it than enjoying it- especially when parked up and any scrote could damage it parking theirs/opening their door or random vandalism/keying and the hire firm to deduct full expense claiming unable to hire it out for x amount of days and so on.

Any firms with options to pay more and get it down to say £800 max or is it too much too hope for?

No view on the excess from that page though I'm afraid, although it does mention that the price includes insurance?

But thats the thing, if it was a sporty car usch as a ferrari etc then fine. But you would imagine something like a S-Class would not attract that kind of riff raff.

Just seems a shame.

Its for a wedding grooms car so Caterham is out.

Plan was to hire a classic like a DB6 but too much hassle as nothing found nearby which I liked and honeymoon straight after so an issue to return the ones I found down south.

Due to excess comfort level will end being a E Class coupe as Avis state 2010 models, only other to appeal is the Xf (as adore the interior!!)

- to get to venue with approval (driving a much loved but squeeky shed with some use of duck tape to hold a bumper side on hehe till the car I want (e60) pops up, OH finds it hilariuos but siblings/mates/most others are ashamed of it! laugh
- Not getting in the 'girly' cheuffered ivory classic car thing OH has hired (as lovely as it is).
- Asian tradition is to pop out during reception to her parents home to pick up a token bit of luggage and for her to say her goodbyes, before going back to the venue and more goodbyes, so need something to take her in!

Call me ignorant but don't you have family or friends that can help you?

Mate of mine hired an R36 for the day at 23 years old. Didn't pay much for it.

No one close enough as close mates have company cars and others have sheds.

Plus as a personal policy from experience unless very close to someone would not ask a favour- as end up feeling obliged in the future.
