What bmw engine is this?

[LeightonBuzzard]

Just a quick one, I've got 2001 (Y reg) e39 325 engine, is this a m52 or m54?

How would I tell?

Cheers

e39 is a 5 series, do you mean a 525 engine? If so, it should be a M54b25 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M54#M54B25)

I'm pretty sure M52 is e36, so at a guess M54 but i'm not sure.
